An important introduction:

Our library has been constructed very recently, one of the last to sprout in Italy. Over four year ago, thanks to the sensibility of the Directors and of the administrative council and to the interest of many teachers, we started to acquire, moreover with rapidity and in considerable quantity,  the necessary material. Intending to create a musica library that can satisfy, in a short period of time, the necessities of specialised use like that of a Conservatory, especially in a time so close to the activation of the reformation.

In the last years we supplied massive purchases in all sectors, but the journey is long:we have reached a minimum standard in the quantity of music editions available.
We have created the basis and we opened, nearly from nothing, a library that functions and who's use increases constantly.

In 2003 we entered in the net of SBN (Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale -national library services)

The on line catalogue of the Compact Discs is already very rich and this library now owns one of the most highly supplied collections, with listening services on premises and take-home lending facilities.

For the other sectors... give us a couple of years...

Como's Conservatory is particularly interested in the use of new technologies. This is also one of the reasons why the library uses this web site with an on-line catalogue of its own possessions.
And it is also for this reason that one of the characteristics of this page takes care of internet resources, for which we have created a special section of denominated links "Virtual Music Library", a sort of portal to the music on the net.

For the moment... we hope that our catalogues
and our links are useful to you.
If they are.... leave us a message

A bit of history...

The Conservatory's library has been established only since 1997, the year after the recognition of the autonomy from the Conservatory of Milan, with which for many years has shared the teaching-staff and the teaching method experiences.
The library has been constituted on small donations, containing mainly in music- scores of the end of 1800 and the first decades of 1900.
The part containing books is especially owed to the musicologist Federico Mompellio, it consists mainly of musicological history edited mainly in the second postwar period, with many specialised dictionaries and remarkably interesting monografies.

A regular policy of the purchases has started only since 1999.

Therefore at the moment, it's possessions are still quantitatively modest, but in a short period of time, presumably about 1 year, we think of constructing a good library, up-dated and efficient.

As a matter of fact we are proceeding with consistent purchases of:

The global possessions of the Library has tripled in a year. At the moment it has reached about 12000 listed documents, about 4000 to be listed.

We are still small... but we are growing...
